Opinion

Last night after that great meal and dessert we watched an old movie "All the King';s Men" taken from the novel by Robert Penn Warren first published in 1946. It was adapted for a film in 1949 and 2006; the 1949 version won the Academy Award for Best Picture. We've watched them both. As usual I have run afoul of thinking way too much, with the strong possibility of infusing my own twisted ideas and rationals to fit the movie's narrative.

I JUST DELETED a 15 volume blog intro to the movie.....

SIMPLE QUESTION .. anyone else seen the movies or read the book????

Was Jack Burden and Adam Stanton gay childhood lovers???? Jack Burden did refuse to hop into bed with Anne Stanton when given the chance. Neither characters were married in their early thirties in an era when many if not most were hitched by age 21. I HATE how 1930/40's books cover up and dance around the topic of "gayness" even though in many Southern states it was illegal to be gay at the time.

Am I just nuts or have any of you gone down my twisted path with this book and movies?

It is rated as the 36th greatest novel of the 20th century by Modern Library and it was chosen as one of Time magazine's 100 best novels since 1923.

In his introduction to the Modern Library edition, Warren denied that the book should be read as either praise for Huey Long or praise for his assassination. However, Warren did not deny that Long served as an influence or inspiration for Stark: In as much did he attribute Stark's death due to "a couple of FAGGOTS" would be where I am coming from.

You would probably find it very interesting, however, both movies are well done and entertaining. They just leave my query unanswered.
